- If you take BLOOD THINNERS, ideally they will need to be stopped prior to any procedure. However, please check with your Medical Doctor first to make sure it is safe for you to stop your blood thinner. Common blood thinners include aspirin, Plavix (clopidogrel), Rivaroxaban (Xarelto), Dabigatran (Pradaxa), Apixaban (Eliquis), and Warfarin (Coumadin).
Your surgery will take place at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Please arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your procedure (no Ubers or taxis).
For your comfort and safety, we recommend nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure, except for any medications (with a small sip of water), despite other instructions you may receive from the anesthesiology or scheduling department at St. Francis. Operating Room schedules can be unpredictable for several reasons, and being NPO (i.e. having had “nothing by mouth”) since midnight will make last minute schedule changes, should they be necessary, go more smoothly.
